Daily Bible Verse: Self Control and Overcoming Bad Habits

Welcome back to our daily bible verse series. Today is a special post taken from our new 2022 daily devotional: The Daily Proverbs: 365 Devotional Sayings on How to Live a Better Life. The proverbs contain so much wisdom and we’re identifying the themes of Self Control and Perseverance today. Let’s dive in to our daily bible verse.

Daily Bible Verse 2022: Self Control and Overcoming Bad Habits

Proverbs 25:28 “A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.”

The lack of discipline in life could lead to eventual despair. Ask God for forgiveness and continue to follow in his faith. Surrender your addictions or bad habits to his higher power and watch your life transform. Whether it’s social media, substances, or adult content, attempt to limit your desires and keep things to moderation. God will forgive us, but we must commit to following His faith to build our own personal “city” walls high and mighty. The more self-discipline we have in life, the more time we will have for creating healthy habits: exercise, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Without self control we can not be proper messengers of God’s wisdom. Have you ever been working on something, but then lost focus while scrolling endlessly on social media? Me too. Nothing good will come with overconsumption. A general life philosophy is to produce 80% and consume 20%. What does this mean? That we should focus more on producing something (work, reading, exercise) and consume far less social media, news media, etc. You’ll be surprised at how much better your life is, although it will feel like you have lots more time, when we take a minute to slow down and relax, rather than endlessly consume.

A lot of our bad habits can be attributed to having poor impulse control, which likely stems from some underlying stress. The Bible is an excellent book to pick up when feeling overwhelmed.

Here’s yesterday’s post on Patience.

God Bless.
