You may catch yourself thinking “I wish I was financially free” “I wish I had the relationship of my dreams” “I wish I had enough money to buy a home” or some variation of any of those thoughts.

If those sound relatable it’s because we lack patience. We know what we want but we don’t have it yet. I too find myself wanting these things that are not yet obtainable. In the process of always wanting more, I forget how blessed I already am. It’s easy to overlook how much we currently have in our lives. Food on our table, a glass of wine or a cold beer at night, a partner who loves us, etc.

Instead of always ‘wanting’ more, let’s pause for a moment and seek God’s wisdom on how to be grateful for this moment.

Philippians 4:6

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God.”

This verse is an excellent reminder to be calm, and in my opinion the best Bible verse about patience. We can ask God for the things we desire, but first we must rid ourselves of the anxiety that modern society creates for us.

Think of social media for example. It’s so easy to get caught up endlessly scrolling looking at photos of people we barely know. And places we’ve never been to, nor aspire to go to. This is subconsciously damaging our ability to remain calm and patient in everyday situations. By counting our blessings and giving to those in need, we will be reminded of how fortunate we already are. That will give us more patience to work hard and wait for all the things we pray for to come into our lives.
