06 Mar Best Bible Verses for Anxiety: How to find calm through God
There are so many anxiety-inducing habits in modern life like social media, too much work, tight deadlines and more. When times get tough, I’ve always found it helpful to look at the best Bible Verses for anxiety to soothe my soul.
Best Bible Verses for anxiety
Matthew 6:34 (NIV)
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Instead of going to bed thinking about all the things we have to do the next day, write down the things you need to accomplish and let them go.
This Bible verse perfectly exemplifies that we can cause more trouble by wasting time worrying. Why worry about something we can’t control?
Try praying to God and living in the moment as best you can.
Proverbs 12:25 (NIV)
“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.”
This Proverb is a nice reminder of how heavy anxiety can make our hearts.
Instead of being carefree and light, worrying can drag us down. When we focus on how blessed we are, things start to get better.
Sometimes all we can do is pray to God and wait and hope. This may not seem like enough in the moment, but over time it will get better.
Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
When God tells us to be still, it’s a literal reminder to slow down.
What use is hurrying around and rushing everywhere. Take a minute to stop and breathe. Focus on the fact that God is with you.
When you start to inhale think about the word ‘inhale,’ the same process when you ‘exhale.’ After a few moments your anxiety will calm down.
At that point, thank God for reminding you to slow down.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
When we’re able to trust God and live in the moment, he will show us the path to more joy. When we’re present, we can focus on the beauty that surrounds us, that God created.
When we slow down, God grants us peace. The peace to enjoy this moment. The peace to find solace in this busy world.
He will protect our hearts and minds and He will calm our anxiety and root us to the ground.
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
When times get tough, it’s easy to forget that God is here. He sees us at our best. He sees us at our worst.
And most importantly, he always wants to listen to what we have to tell him.
Somedays our prayers will be full of asks. Other days, we’ll say grace and count our blessings.
When we’re anxious, it’s important just to know he’s here. He’s right by your side. Turn to him and pray.
